Club Champions and Invitation Tournament for the Courage Trophy
|
In 1963 Courage Ltd entered the sponsorship of amateur golf and in conjunction with Henry Cotton and this Union, arranged their first tournament for Club Champions at Queens Park, Bournemouth and presented a trophy to be held for one year by the club of the competitor returning the best gross medal score over 36 holes in addition to individual prizes. When this sponsorship finished in 1974 the Union decided to retain the tournament as a major stroke play event for Club Champions and Category 1 golfers. In 2000 the tournament was changed to entry by invitation only from the County.
